How to Make the Internet-Famous ‘Beericano’ at Home
The trending Beericano cocktail , a twist on a standard Americano Perfecto that’s topped with beer foam, is a viral hit. While the OG version without the foam was invented by Damon Boelte, co-owner of Grand Army Bar in Brooklyn , the Beericano has recently taken social media by storm thanks to creators like Chris Leavitt, otherwise known as Not Just a Bartender on social media, whose foam-topped Beericano has racked up over 1.5 million views.
The most crucial step of making this new, foamier Beericano iteration is fluffing up the beer. Assuming you don’t have draft beer at home, you’ll need to froth the beer with a milk frother, or shake it up yourself before pouring it into the glass. Leavitt adds a pinch of salt to the beer right before he froths it, which he says “punches up a savory note,” but if you decide to forgo the extra step, your drink won’t suffer substantially.
Boelte’s version of this drink uses a pilsner, which Robby Dow, owner of Bespoke in Wilmington, North Carolina, likes to use as well for its hoppiness and “really persistent carbonation.”

That said, bartender Justin Sajda (i.e. Thirsty Whale on social media) uses Costco’s Kirkland Lager for his version and found that the flavors worked well. No need to overthink your beer selection, though. Riff away on what’s already a riff of a cocktail.
