Coconut Tree Colada Recipe | Wine Enthusiast
At a White House event last year, Vice President Kamala Harris repeated a line that her mother used to say to her when she was young: “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” Explaining what it meant, she added, “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”
In the months since her campaign was announced, this anecdote has taken on a life of its own, morphing into internet memes and an ironic slogan of support for Harris’s presidential campaign. Those who ascribe to the anecdote’s values are said to be “coconut-pilled,” the inverse of how people who fall down right-wing rabbit holes are “red-pilled.” (Both terms are references to a pivotal scene in The Matrix. You keeping up?)
This newfound obsession with the tropical fruit, obviously, calls for cocktails. Falling somewhere between a piña colada and a spritz, this Coconut Tree Colada with coconut rum and sparkling wine exists in the context of all the mixed drinks that came before—just like everyone and everything else.
