Satisfy Your Inner Child with This Corn Flake-Infused Cocktail


The Golden Myth is a corn flake-infused riff on a clarified milk punch featuring rum, aged cachaça, banana liqueur, Lillet Blanc and other sweeteners and spices. The deeply nostalgic and nuanced cocktail is milk washed, a time-consuming process that makes it better suited for batching rather than individual drinks. 

Recipe developer Nick Torres scaled down this recipe, developed by Mike Lopez and Terrance Bacon for Clever Koi in Phoenix, Arizona, into seven servings, ready to be chilled and poured to order. Feel free to scale it up or down to suit your drinking needs.

The Golden Myth

Recipe by Mike Lopez and Terrance Bacon for Clever Koi, adapted by Nick Torres

Servings: 7

Total Time: 2.5 hrs

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces Ron Colón
  • 1.5 ounces aged cachaça
  • 2 ounces banana liqueur
  • 4 ounces Thai tea
  • 3 ounces lemon juice
  • 3 ounces demerara syrup
  • 3 ounces Lillet Blanc
  • .5 ounce Réal Peach*
  • 3 ounces corn flake milk**
  • 2 crushed cinnamon sticks
  • 7 whole eggs, for serving
  • Grated nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions


Step 1


In a pitcher or large measuring cup with a pour spout, combine all ingredients except for the egg and garnish, adding the milk last.


Step 2

Allow the mixture to sit, covered, at room room temperature for at least an hour or until there is a clear separation layer.


Step 3

Strain through a mesh strainer lined with a paper towel (this could take up to an hour).


Step 4

To serve, chill a glass with ice water while you prepare the drink.


Step 5

Add 3 ounces of the clarified cocktail and one whole egg to a shaker tin. Use the reverse dry shake technique (shake first with ice, then without) to emulsify.


Step 6

Dump out the ice water. Double strain into the chilled glass and garnish with a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg.

* Sweetened, peach purée Réal Peach infused syrup can be purchased online and at liquor stores.

**Corn Flake Milk

  • ½ cup corn flakes
  • 3.5 ounces whole milk

Instructions


Step 1

Combine the milk and corn flakes. Let the mixture soak in the fridge for 20 minutes.


Step 2

Strain and reserve the milk.
