McBride Sisters Wine Company She Can

The McBride Sisters Wine Company, the largest Black-owned wine company in the U.S., is doing its part to close the gender and race gaps in the winemaking industry.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale of the She Can line—a line of complex, balanced and high-quality canned wines—goes to the McBride Sisters She Can Fund, which supports women in traditionally male-dominated industries.  Professional development grants, in-kind marketing support and mentorship are all part of the She Can Fund’s projects.

Within one year of starting the fund, McBride Sisters was able to award scholarships of of nearly $40,000 to women in the wine industry. Since then, it’s contributed over $3 million to various mission-aligned efforts.

Baldacci Family Vineyards

Every year, the Baldacci family pledges to donate $10 for every active wine club member to the local Napa County nonprofit Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center, which provides health, social, and educational services to the local Latino community.

The brand currently counts 1,200 active wine club members, which means the donation for 2022 is on track to be $12,000. This charitable tradition grows every year as the wine club grows, with the Baldacci family’s contribution going toward Puertas Abiertas’ initiatives that help improve financial ability, civic involvement and educational success within the community.

Vina Robles the Arborist

Vina Robles hails from Paso Robles, California, where its flagship wine pays homage to the region’s iconic oak trees. In an effort to preserve the beauty and endurance of the oaks, the brand uses a portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold to plant trees. Through a partnership with One Tree Planted, the company has planted over 21,500 trees through sales of this wine.

The Arborist is a dynamic, medium-bodied red blend that’s dedicated to Vina Robles’ founder Hans Nef and named for the arborist who saved the life of the centuries-old oak tree featured on the winery’s label.


Ornellaia Vendemmia d’Artista

The Ornellaia Vendemmia d’Artista Project was created to celebrate each new vintage of Ornellaia. Each year, a contemporary artist is selected to create a work of art and a series of special-edition labels that embody the character of the new vintage.

Through the brand’s partnership with Sotheby’s, the art is auctioned off with benefits going to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in support of the Museum’s innovative Mind’s Eye program, which creates programming for visitors who are blind or have low vision. This year, the Ornellaia 2019 “Il Vigore” Vendemmia d’Artista auction raised $302,000 for the charity.

ONEHOPE California Brut Sparkling Wine

ONEHOPE is a completely mission-driven brand, which means that proceeds from the sales of all its wines go to benefit different charitable causes. To date, the brand has raised over $8 million to support both local and global causes, including health research, education, hunger relief and access to clean water.


Head High Vineyards

Head High Vineyards makes Sonoma County Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel, all of which benefit environmental charities like Sustainable Surf and Duke’s Oceanfest.

The brand seeks to create a cleaner environment and stronger local communities through every bottle of wine sold. To date, Head High has raised over $96,148 and remains committed to environmental stewardship through the partnership with these non-profit organizations.


Flying Embers Sweet and Heat Hard Seltzer

Launched in the midst of the 2017 Thomas Fires, this hard seltzer and kombucha brand dedicates 1% of all sales to its Embers Foundation in appreciation of the first responders who worked to save the community.

The proceeds go toward addressing firefighter, first responder and community needs through wildfire prevention and education, real-time natural disaster response and mental health recovery programs.

With every bottle sold since then, Noble Oak has planted a tree. This past year, Noble Oak hit the 500,000 tree mark for the brand. It’s new goal? Plant 1 million trees by the end of 2023.

When Lamberto Frescobaldi, the president of Frescobaldi Toscana, realized that recently released inmates struggled to find legitimate work, the Frescobaldi family partnered with an island prison to teach winemaking skills and cultivation to inmates.

The program aims to teach tangible work skills to prison populations, preparing them for release and providing them with the opportunity for betterment. In 2022, the program celebrated its 10th year.

Dos Maderas Luxus Double Aged Rum

Through its Luxus Rum line, Dos Maderas is dedicated to protecting sea turtles that are in danger of extinction throughout the Caribbean. The company has teamed up with ecotourism social enterprise Sos Nicaragua; a portion of proceeds from all bottles sold goes directly to help save baby turtles and their nesting habitats.


Purple Heart Red Blend

Like the name implies, the Purple Heart Red Blend was created to honor the courageous men and women serving in our nation’s military.

Made of Merlot, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah and Malbec grapes from Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley vineyards, the wine serves as a tribute to military heroes. Through the sale of this wine, the Mondavi family is able to make an annual donation to the Purple Heart Foundation, which serves to address the needs of veterans and their families.

Sonoma-based winery Angels & Cowboys is in the second year of its Pulling Corks and Filling Forks initiative. The effort takes a portion of the proceeds from every bottle of wine sold and donates it to the World Central Kitchen, which helps fund meals for people and families affected by natural and manmade disasters.

Böen Wines offers cool-climate California favorites like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and every bottle purchased gives you the opportunity to support a worthy cause.

Through Böen’s partnership with No Kid Hungry, known as the “Enjoy a Bottle, Help Give Meals” initiative, the two organizations are helping to provide needy children with meals through the end of 2022. Santa Teresa 1796 Rum

The number-one producer of rum in Venezuela, Santa Teresa 1796 has been producing the spirit for centuries. In 2003, a group of gang members broke onto the rum producer’s property and threatened a security guard. Once apprehended, the gang members were given an ultimatum: Stay and work, or be handed over to the police. That incident sparked Project Alcatraz, which Santa Teresa 1796 run ever since.

Project Alcatraz aims to recruit criminal gangs, rehabilitate them and reintegrate them back into society. The initiative provides education, training and mental health assistance to troubled youth. To date, the charity has recruited over 200 former gang members and has taken the methodology to 34 different penitentiaries throughout Venezuela.
